Tipi Liners      A liner, also know as a "Dew Cloth" is a second interior wall or layer of canvas that is fastened to a rope which is fastened to the poles. Our liners for tipis up to 22' in diameter are cut 6' tall and when in place are 5'4" leaving 8" to lay on the ground. Our liners for 24'-30' diameter tipis are cut 9' tall and when in place are 8' leaving 12" to lay on the ground.      Historically, liners helped provide an upward draft for drawing out smoke and more important, insulation of the tipi. They were designed to seal off the flow of air around the base of the tipi and draw it up between the outer cover and the inner liner thus creating a draft above head level (when sitting or laying). This would pull the smoke from the fire with it out the smoke flap opening. Often decorated with geometric border designs, a liner also kept the rain that inevitably ran down the poles from dripping on sleepers. To prevent unwanted moisture in the sleeping area, poles were scraped smooth of bumps. Ground Cloth      Western Canvas also offers ground cloths for those who would like to further insulate the inside of your tipi. They lay on the ground and are cut to lay inside the poles. If you choose to put a fire in your tipi you will need to make the necessary cut out in the ground cloth keeping a safe distance around your fire pit.
